Assessment of addiction management program and predictors of relapse among inpatients of the Psychiatric Institute at Ain Shams University Hospital

Abstract Background Rehabilitation programs targeted to patients with substance use disorder (SUD) following successful detoxification constitute a global public health concern. This study aimed examine the effectiveness of combined pharmacotherapy/cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) model through assessing abstinence/relapse rate and quality life (QOL) in sample SUD. Indeed, we identify relapse predictors. Results The inpatient group was 45.33%, compared 56% outpatient group. Multivariate analysis revealed that educational levels less than secondary school, rural residency, being single or divorced, having cravings lasting for 6 weeks from detoxification, legal history, presence borderline, antisocial multiple personality could predict Moreover, there statistically significant difference between legal, substance, social domains ASI ( X 2 = 12.525, p =0.014; =0.023; 6.335, =0.042 respectively) majority QOL relapse. Conclusions Socio-demographic data, craving, co-morbid disorders along with, might be implicated relapse, suggesting addiction rehabilitation targeting these topics would reduce risk
